“Business”…. just what does that word mean? And why would you ever associate it with the word “passion”?!?
One definition of business is “work that has to be done or matters that have to be attended to”. Taking that definition alone, it seems reasonable that anything you personally deem as necessary to be done could be your “business”. I believe that I could easily cultivate a “business” of baking or merchandising or designing spaces without much thought. The point I want to make here is really quite simple….Life is too short not to enjoy your work (your business) and certainly I believe that you should never take on a job for just the mighty dollar; rather, find joy in what you do…be passionate about it even!

It’s my firm belief that you should surround yourself with things that bring you happiness. For me, those things are largely other people, and in particular my family. I also thoroughly enjoy old, chippy, worn out antiques and vintage items. So if I put those two things together, I have just cultivated a business of passion!
In 2017 as my husband was entering his retirement years, he asked me what I wanted to do with this phase of our life. With that question came the opportunity for us to launch into a wild discussion of our individual dreams. My husband then surprised me when I told him the desire of my heart and at that point he said, “Let’s do it!” We opened our first brick and morter shop known as Burlap & Lace and until 2024 we worked together creating and finding joy in that journey, both in our storefront location and in locations owned and managed by others.

This page of my new blog will be dedicated to the people who have touched my life along my business journey. And it will offer helpful hints on things I have learned along the way as I curated spaces, painted and restored furniture and dabbled in upholstery. In time, I hope to get back to upholstering as I found that quite challenging and fun. Every piece had a story to tell and my imagination has proven to be large enough to tell it! So stay tuned here on this page if you also love a good story. And until the next post here, challenge yourself to find joy in your own business. And don’t be afraid to cultivate some passion in it along your way!
